Helpful book about WHY WORRY! Enjoyed this book!

This is truly a no fluff book about why worry! It is practical and helpful and the author gives different situations in people who worry and how to avoid this.

The book is an interesting read and I found it very helpful, however, what I do not like is that it is hard to navigate around in and it was written originally some time ago for a different time.

Great book and very easy to read in my opinion.

The Art of being a Healing Presence

"...what a healer is. It's someone, who can see your movement toward wholeness more clearly than you're able to yourself at a given point in time."

This is a simple and easy to understand description of how to create healing space and provide a healing presence. It is a beautiful book in its simplicity. I highly recommend this for anyone who wants to be a helpful presence.

While taking a course to become a hospice volunteer this book was recommended for reading. It proved to be a very valuable guide and I would recommend it to anyone who is thinking of becoming a volunteer. There are some great lessons to be learned and a wonderful guide and is very thought provoking. It has given me a lot to think about when I sit with my patients and I hope to be of help to them because of reading this book.

I really like this sweet romance

I really like this sweet romance. We all need second chances. Especially when it comes to love. Two good people deserve to find each other. I highly recommend this book.

"This Was a Good RomanceThat Went By Too Fast"

"Once Again" was a good short story but I would have liked it to be a bit longer. It was easier to understand where the author was coming from after looking at the blurb from book one and seeing that her stories are about second chances or new beginnings which I like.

I think the stories and characters are good only needing a little more meat. If wanted, these are perhaps buildable characters for the future as well. I liked the characters of Evie and Grady and the fact that that this was a CLEAN romance.

Michelle Blenker's narration was pretty nice. She has a nice voice. The one thing I felt was that she read to fast. I had to look twice to see if it was somehow set on 1.25 or more because I listen at regular speed. Otherwise, her performance was good.

Another short, sweet romance by Kristie Rose

Kristie Rose's short stories are about second chances. The characters are the kind that you want to get together and she does this very quickly in her stories. They are so likable that I wanted more. Maybe the author will take these characters and put them in a longer book. I know that I would read it! The narrator was very good, not having all the pauses that some of the narrators have. Her voice is very pleasant.
I was given a copy of this audio book in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.

There are much better books on the subject...

If you want to learn tanning and you can only afford one book, don't make it this one. While James Churchill has clearly tanned numerous hides, he doesn't give the beginner near enough detail to have much chance of success... There especially aren't enough illustrations or photos of key parts of the process.
Tanning is fairly simple craft, but it is precise and very tactile. You need an author who will walk you step by step through the process. Amazon.com offers two books that I highly recommend if you wish to learn hide-tanning: DEERSKINS INTO BUCKSKINS: How to Tan With Natural Materials, and Wetscrape Braintan Buckskin. Get one or both and you'll get the results you're looking for.
There is some good information in Churchill's work, so if you already have tanned numerous hides, you might get it as an additional source of knowledge or ideas. However you should still beware that some of the information is either faulty or just based on a severe lack of experience with certain tanning methods (an example of this is his info on tanning buckskin. Churchill has you use a smoking method that is not only a royal pain in the arse but takes three days of constant supervision. If done correctly, this process only takes 1 or 2 hrs. He also says that this smoking renders the hide water-resistant...which isn't even close to being true!)
I don't mean any offense to the author...just want to prevent would be tanners some serious frustration.

You can find much better books on the subject

James Churchill has obviously tanned numerous hides, but that doesn't translate into a book that can teach you to tan. He covers a lot of topics, but they are so shallowly covered that I would be surprised if a beginner could tan something that they are satisfied with.
I tan hides at home for a living, and teach hide tanning at events all over North America, and as far as what Churchill has to say about the tanning methods that I often use...brain and soap tanning, or bark tanning...I don't think you would have practically any chance following his directions. They are just too scanty. Tanning isn't hard but it is precise, you need clear in-depth instructions.
The directions are also sometimes incorrect or tell you a method that no self respecting tanner would use...simply because there are much easier ways! Take for example the directions on smoking a hide. He tells you that smoking makes the hide water resistant (which isn't accurate), and tells you to smoke it over a tripod arranged around a camp-fire, and to do it for two or three days!
In reality, smoking a hide makes it so that you can wash it (or get it wet), over and over again, and it will stay soft. And while smoking it over a tripod works, its the biggest hassle I can think of.
I certainly don't want to be putting Mr. Churchill down, writing a book is a lot of work, and he has clearly tanned many hides judging by the pictures of him and his son, but there just isn't the kind of quality detail or the number of photos and illustrations that people need to learn tanning.
If you are looking for a really good, simple to follow home tanning book, try out "Deerskins into Buckskins" by Matt Richards. It will teach you how to tan beatiful hides using traditional natural tanning techniques such as brains, or soap and oil(no dangerous chemicals necessary!). It is loaded with photos and illustrations, and the methods taught are efficient, tried and true, and don't require special equipment. Another worthwhile work is "Wetscrape Braintanned Buckskin" by Steven Edholm.

Covers a Lot of Ground, Decently

Churchill covers the tanning of many different types of animals, using many different methods. This is the good and the bad of this book. No other tanning book I know of contains so much varied information, and for this reason its a good one to have. However, the techniques are not covered in much detail so it is challenging for the beginning tanner to be successful using these instructions alone.
In reference to the previous reviews written here. I agree with the first two (look like they are written by the same guy?), in that if you are wanting to tan buckskin, this isn't the best book. However if you are wanting to do furs, the books mentioned below don't cover them (I'm the author of one of them)...and this is your best bet.

Great Punic War resource for academic or personal research

I purchased this book for an academic paper, and could not bear to let it go. Now that I am blogging history as well as writing historical fiction, this book is still a great resource.

The chapters provide a history of the background leading to the Punic wars, discuss the account of the wars by Polybius as well as other contemporary historians, and discuss each of the Three Wars in some detail. Military enthusiasts and political scientists will find an equal amount of interesting and informative material herein.

I highly recommend this book.

Great Compilation of Punic Wars resources

Companion to the Punic Wars is a great text for anyone interested in the Punic Wars, or writing any academic literature on the subject. This text was the bulk of my research for an undergraduate thesis and has an extensive bibliography allowing for further research on the subject. If you are writing on the topic in any extent, you must read this text. Dedicates a large chunk to each individual war, but also dives into theoretical perspectives on ancient historiography and classical literature. Great Resource.

Put This One Back in Print!

I've worked in editing and copy editing for more than 30 years, and this is the best training manual for proofreaders available. The only problem is that it's out of print. I beg Editorial Experts--or some other publisher--to reprint this book. Please, someone, put this book back in print!

A very worthwhile investment of time and money

I acquired this book _while_ working on a proofreading job, took an hour or two out to read the main text of it (eight short chapters), and have been very glad I did. The instructional part of the text, geared toward the professional proofreader, progresses clearly and succinctly, with plentiful examples and no tedious filler about how important proofreading is in the grand scheme of things. The author doesn't talk down to you or try to inflate your self-importance; she just tells you how to perform your task in an efficient, thorough, and professional way.

I've been an editorial freelancer for a couple of years and worked in-house in publishing as well, so I thought I already pretty much knew how to proofread. I had never taken a class in proofing, however, so I wanted to make sure--before getting too far into my first full-length book job for a new and much-desired client--that there weren't any conventions or tricks of the trade that I was missing. Having read the business part of this book, I now feel confident that I can do the job well.

There's a handy cheat-sheet of the most commonly used marks--more detailed than what you'll find in your dictionary--printed both within the text and inside the back cover. Every time I have to mark up something more tricky than the situations handled there, I look it up in the main text. The examples are well chosen and thoughtfully organized, and there are not so many that it takes more than a minute to find the one you're looking for.

The second half of the book comprises mostly exercises--with answer keys. I'm looking forward to doing those when I have some free time.

If you are ever called upon to proofread, I strongly recommend that you get this very practical book.

A Refreshing and Concise Workbook for Aspiring Proofreaders

Whether learning the trade or refreshing rusty skills, Mark My Words is the most welcome and informative proofreading workbook I have found. Content is introduced in a practical step-by-step manner. Discussion of topics progresses logically from a beginner's level i.e. learning of the 'dele' mark on through to more intermediate levels such as page layout editing. Many features of this text/workbook set it above the rest of the proofreading guides. Exercises along with their answer keys accompany each skill-builder. Helpful hints are arranged in keys; sections of chapters on devoted to subjects such as what to query, tricks of the trade, and guidelines for what to proof in each successive pass of one's editing. For exercises comparing dead copy to live, Mark My Words has even perforated pages for removal and, hence, easy comparison reading! Mark My Words is also a wonderfully clear and concise reference book. I have found it is much faster to seek an answer to a proofreading question with Peggy Smith's work than with any of the others in my collection...and there are several. I recommend this book whole-heartedly!
