Definitely a different take on the BDSM genre.

I was really waffling between giving this book a 3 or 4 star rating. I can’t say that I super enjoyed it necessarily, but it had me experiencing so many different feelings and reactions that I figured that in and of itself was reason enough to add to the star rating. I also have to give this not so little book some credit in assisting me in my desire to quit smoking.
There is so so so much going on this book. Because of this I’m having a hard time putting my thoughts into a good review style so I’m going to basically bullet point the parts of the story that struck me for one reason or another:
-I absolutely LOVED the idea of a bondage sorority. At first I didn’t know how to feel about the basically forced bondage, but I actually really grew to appreciate the discipline the sorority was actually going for. As this is not about a sorority with a bunch of horny girls all getting it on with each other as you would most likely be led to believe by the name of the book. This sorority is all about taking girls who are acting out at home and getting into trouble (some much worse than others), and teaching them discipline and respect. Not to mention they also focus on their “little sisters” (pledges) getting exceptionally good grades and getting healthy by eating better and exercising. Drinking and smoking are not allowed in this sorority, and after so many pages of either characters discussing how much they want to smoke, or how gross smoking is and how bad it smells, I finally decided to quit smoking myself, lol! I had already been seriously considering the idea, but with all the negative criticism on smoking in the book I finally relented and agreed that it is a horribly disgusting and smelly habit and so I’m quitting. Thanks Mistress Hu!
-Some of the tactics the big sisters use I highly disagree with. There is a lot of non-consent going on due to the little sisters basically having been duped by their parents to join the sorority. All of the little sisters had their mothers go to that sorority as well so basically that’s why they are all there. Due to the extreme nature of the sorority, it’s really only those that totally understand their scene, or were part of the sorority, that have any sway on who gets in. One of the little sisters is constantly being mummified and is made to sleep that way to assist with her weight loss. There is a lot of discussion in the book about how they make sure all the little sisters get enough food and water and that there aren’t so many distractions as to cause problems with their school work, but I still can’t help but thinking about the fact that I’m claustrophobic myself. Those kind of mental situations don’t seem to really come up in this story and I would’ve really liked to see how the big sisters reacted to a little sister if she totally refused a punishment due to the mental instability it could cause. Would they force her to be mummified if she were claustrophobic? If so then I would consider that abuse, not punishment. However there isn’t anything that comes up to tell the readers that there are these types if serious mental issues with what is going on so I’m not going to make assumptions.
-To add on to the previous statement; there is also a little sister whose big sister insists that she be called “Mommy” and treats her little sister like a baby. Like an actual baby. Diapers, bottle, the whole nine. She even insists that the little sister actually use the diaper and then “Mommy” changes her diaper and cleans her up. This may be considered a spoiler to some so here’s the tag. (view spoiler) They do end up addressing this issue but I just can’t help but think these people should be smart enough to know better. Unless of course there’s someone in the house that is purposely messing things up for the little sisters? Maybe we’ll find out in book 2.
-(view spoiler) Thank God the sorority actually does address this when she gets back from home and essentially tells her that they are taking responsibility for what happened due to them not really speaking to them to discuss the different between bondage discipline and abuse. Since these girls have never been in any sort of BDSM scenario before they had nothing to compare it against to realize that what was going on in the sorority was discipline vs. what was going at home being abuse. What I appreciated about this was the fact that those with the experience took responsibility for not teaching their little sisters properly and made sure to rectify that situation.
-This whole book (a whopping 390,000 words) is done entirely through 1st person POV with the main character, Cece. I don’t dislike 1st person POV but its very hard to do, and while I did feel it was done very well in the book, it was honestly so long that I hated being in Cece’s head all the time. I felt like most of the book was just detailing her getting up in the morning, going to class, going to her next class, coming back to the house to paint, and then going to bed. It just got really boring and tiresome at some parts.
In conclusion; there are definitely enough reasons for me to continue this series. I want to know what’s going to happen with Cece’s not so professional professor, as well as what happens on her next home trip. Unfortunately, if the next installments are as long as this one I’ll be skimming the boring day to day details.

390,000 words, holy Hannah, wish me luck, check back in a few weeks.
Apparently there's an audience for every book, sadly I wasn't it when it came to this one. The title clued me in the focus was bondage, but somehow I expected more. The story is a day by day blow of life at the Sorority, and at times I wondered if I'd accidentally backtracked and was re-reading the same chapter as many were extremely similar.
Some of the type's of gags used were new to me, and I love learning new things while reading. Big Sister, Chloe must have had an endless supply of microfoam tape! Her nickname was 'Gag girl' and she gagged the main character Cece relentlessly.
***Minor spoilers ahead! Proceed with caution***
One of Cece's fellow little sisters was assigned to a big sister into little play, much of that is told. Cece is mortified or should I say disgusted when she finds out her fellow little sister has been diapered. So much so her thoughts and comments on the topic became almost offensive.
There's a huge amount of talk about attending BDSM class, but the closest you get to see inside is the day on rope tying/bondage.
As a side note, for some reason I expected girl on girl sex, as in touching, petting, loving, sucking, fingering.... but there's nothing like that, so if you are hoping to read some hot girl on girl action you won't find it here.
One of the things that kept me reading was the hopes that Chloe and Cece (the two main characters) would become a couple. I'm not going to disclose if they did or not!
Readers into bondage, gagging, being shackled, and some humiliation, will likely enjoy this story very much. I urge you to get your hands on a copy and decide for yourself if the story is for you!

Ball Gags and Humiliation, Oh my! Excellent

Excellent story telling; highly recommended.Those of you who like f/f discipline, humiliation and particularly bondage may want to sample Mistress Hu's California Bondage Sorority, a book I "purchased" on KU. If you enjoy the books of Ashley Zacharias you will probably enjoy reading this one. For that matter, if you like the gritty story telling of Charles Dickens, you might well relish this tale.
Long, real plot, lots of discipline in the form of humiliation, bondage and pain, plus things that women seem to love: spending hours walking up and down in high hells while wearing a corset. A very tight corset. Lots of ball gags.
2/9: The above review is a bit glib. This is an excellent book. Lots of interesting, and very real, social issues are touched upon in passing. All of the main characters make mistakes, small and some huge. Even the "good" gals. Mistress Hu gets us both into the 'fly on the wall' position and inside the heads of her characters. Despite the title, lots of kink varieties appear here. Plus, because the book is long, you get sufficient time to see events unfold almost in real time.
